Creative Rights is the result of several years of careful and thorough planning by its cofounders, Brandon Weiner and Travis Rimando, two recent graduates of The University of Michigan Law School. Mr. Weiner and Mr. Rimando have founded nonprofits in the past and have extensive experience in the operations of both art and legal nonprofit organizations. As professional artists prior to law school, the cofounders are uniquely positioned to understand the needs of their clients.

Brandon Weiner
Executive Director

Brandon received his BA and MA from Emory University in intellectual history and his JD from the University of Michigan Law School. He is a licensed attorney in the state of Michigan and teaches Law & Art in Public Policy at Eastern Michigan University.

Brandon has a long history of public interest work. He co-founded the nonprofit New Media Rights and has worked for the Utility Consumers’ Action Network, the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, Kids Korps USA, and served as a legal intern at the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Brandon’s passion for the arts comes from his own eclectic background as an artist. He has been employed as both a videographer and graphic designer, enjoys making indie synth-pop music in his spare time, and is currently a member of a Los Angeles-based artist collective.

Noah Morrison
Director of Development

Noah Morrison holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wayne State University in Communication Studies. His hands on experience creating and implementing systems in a variety of fields makes him a unique asset. From overseeing large sales and managing customer service to teaching language abroad and getting his hands dirty as a nursing assistant in the operating rooms of the Detroit Medical Center he is a versatile fellow. Noah is also a musician and usually has several projects both solo and collaborative at any given time.

His gregarious nature led him to the team and his tenacity led to his instatement as our director of development.

Seth Weiner
Director of Design

Seth holds a MArch from SCI-Arc (The Southern California Institute of Architecture) in Los Angeles and a Fine Arts Degree (B.F.A.) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Often containing performance and proposal simultaneously, his work employs a wide range of media in which he explores the gaps between architectural fiction and social convention to create both actual and imagined spatial environments.

Seth has taught previously at The Art Institute of California-Hollywood and the Universität der Künste Berlin and currently teaches in the Department of Media Communications at Webster University in Vienna. Most recently Seth developed a site-and space-specific performance for the MAK’s Columned Main Hall (Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna) in collaboration with the Vienna Chamber Choir and Boku Choir.

Maggie Mettler
Project Leader

Maggie received her JD from the University of Michigan Law School and is currently an Associate at Foley & Lardner LLP in Detroit. She has always had a great interest in the arts. Before attending law school Maggie worked in marketing for the architectural firm SSOE Group and her article, “Graffiti Museum: A First Amendment Argument for Protecting Uncommissioned Art on Private Property,” was published in the Michigan Law Review. Maggie is the Project Leader for Detroit Light Switch, a public art and lighting initiative that she conceived in response to Detroit’s summer 2013 “lighting crisis. Maggie is also a Creative Rights board member.”

Travis Rimando
Co-Founder/ California Supervising Attorney

Travis is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Michigan Law School. He served as a legal intern for California Lawyers for the Arts and The First Amendment Project. Travis received the 2011 Dores McCree Award for outstanding service to the Michigan Law School community.

He is a national award-winning DJ with over a decade of professional club and radio experience. He has been a member of several bands, including Atlantic Records recording artists The Transplants, who headlined the 2005 Vans Warped Tour.

Travis also has experience in music education and academia. He co-founded both the NorCal DJ & Music Production Academy and BEATZ, and has lectured at UC-Berkeley, UCLA, and U of M.

Cliff Helm
Staff Attorney and Director of ArtsLabs

Cliff received his JD from the University of Michigan Law School where he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan Telecommunications and Technology Law Review. He is currently leading the ArtsLab project, an inter-disciplinary educational project at the University of Michigan providing experience-based entrepreneurial and legal education to students in the arts.

Jonathan Nehmetallah
Summer Legal Intern

Jon is a visiting International Arts & Artists Scholar. He currently attends Queens’ University Faculty of Law in Kingston, Ontario with an interest in international law and arts law. This summer, Jon is undertaking a comprehensive evaluation of Ponyride’s Workshops + Education Program. Following his evaluation, Jon will develop a system of best practices that will allow Ponyride and its tenants to provide educational programming with clear guidelines that promote its mission, incentivize participation and mitigate liability.
