Support Creative Rights

Creative Rights is deeply grateful for the extraordinary generosity of the individuals who support our work.

There is no other option for artists seeking affordable legal services in Michigan; in all cases Creative Rights provides services where they would otherwise be unavailable. With your help, Creative Rights fills a critical niche in sustaining the vibrant arts community at the heart of Detroit’s burgeoning revitalization.

Creative Rights saved the iconic 9-story “Illuminated Mural,” painted by Detroit-based artist Katherine Craig and local community members, after a new landlord purchased the 2937 E. Grand Building intending to destroy the mural.

This spring, your support enabled us to provide the legal representation necessary to

transform a vacant historic building into a vibrant, mixed-use art space. Your support saved Detroit’s iconic Illuminated Mural from destruction. Your support enabled Creative Rights to negotiate with contractors and designers to make possible the Two Tower public art project in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit. Your support provided seven legal clinics to artists and creators, and prevented the wrongful eviction of the members of Detroit-based artist collective, North End Studios.

As we expand to serve our growing membership in Michigan, New York and LA, we greatly appreciate your continued generosity. Join us as we lend a hand to the creative entrepreneurs whose ingenuity is transforming our community.

Your donations make it possible for Creative Rights to carry out its mission of providing free legal services, educational programs, and coordination of professional support services to the creative communities of Detroit, Ann Arbor, and beyond. Creative Rights is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.
